Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo has credited former Leeds United boss Dave Hockaday with rescuing his early career.
“[Hockaday] gave me my opportunity, he took a chance on me, took a gamble, got me fit, and I’m where I am today because of him. He gave me that confidence as a kid. I had no confidence being rejected so much. But he gave me that boost, and I couldn’t be happier.” He was speaking to Away Days.
Leeds endured a carousel of coaches between relegation in 2004 and promotion in 2020.
The Massimo Cellino era brought the most churn, the owner sacked six managers before selling his stake to Andrea Radrizzani in 2017.
Hockaday was Cellino’s most unexpected pick. His previous senior job had been with Forest Green Rovers.
His Leeds tenure was brief, he failed to win a competitive game and left after six games.
