Arne Slot hints Alexander Isak could feature at Etihad as Liverpool face Man City in FA Cup thriller | OneFootball

Arne Slot has suggested that Alexander Isak could make the Liverpool squad for tomorrow's FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City.

Isak has returned to training at Liverpool this week for the first time since suffering a fractured fibula and ankle injury against Tottenham in December.

The Swedish striker underwent surgery following the injury and has spent recent months working through rehabilitation.

The injury halted what has been a frustrating season for Isak, since his £125m British record move from Newcastle last summer. Isak has played just 508 minutes ofPremier League football.

Slot warned that it will take Isak time to get back up to speed. However, he refused to rule out the record signing featuring at the Etihad tomorrow.

Speaking at hispre-match press conference, Slot said he's delighted to have Isak close to a first-team return.

"Is he ready to play some minutes? That's the question. It's a difficult one. It is not a normal one, if he can only play 10 minutes and it goes to extra time... Maybe a few minutes. Let's wait and see how it is today."

"It would not make any sense to start him.

"I see a player that is physically in a much better place but going from 100 days off to the intensity of the Premier League is difficult.

"I am really happy I have a number nine available again behind or playing with Hugo Ekitike. That's already a positive thing.

"Next season after a proper pre-season, we could expect more from him, maybe than now. But even the way he is now is a big step forward for us."

In other injury news, Slot confirmed Alisson Becker is facing a period on the sidelines. Jeremie Frimpong and Mohamed Salah are available.

“He (Alisson( will not be part of the Paris Saint-Germain games as well. He will be out for a bit longer. Towards the end of the season we expect him to be fit again.”
