Arsenal duo Saka and Ødegaard handed positive injury update

Arsenal have received a welcome boost concerning the fitness of Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard following the 5-0 win over Leeds United. Both players started the first home game of the new season but were unable to complete the match due to respective injuries.

Saka was on target before going off in the second half, while Ødegaard’s lively start to the game was cut short in the first period with a suspected shoulder issue. For the Norwegian, it was particularly frustrating as he became the 118th Gunner to reach 200 appearances for the club. Supporters feared the worst after the pair were forced off, especially with a difficult trip to Anfield looming.

Injuries not as serious as first feared

According to The Times, the injuries are not as bad as initially feared. Scans suggest both could be short-term absentees rather than long-term concerns. Their availability for the clash with Liverpool remains in doubt, but the update still comes as a major boost compared to the early concerns.

Saka’s hamstring problem looked worrying at first sight, while the decision to substitute Ødegaard was believed to be precautionary after he tried to continue despite discomfort. More clarity is expected during the week, with further updates before the Liverpool fixture.

Growing injury list at Arsenal

Despite the encouraging news, Arsenal remain without several important players. Kai Havertz and Ben White recently picked up injuries, while Christian Nørgaard has yet to feature this season due to an unspecified issue. Gabriel Jesus is also still sidelined, although the Brazilian is edging closer to a return.

Arsenal have strengthened significantly over the summer, but staying injury-free will be crucial if they are to sustain their challenge on multiple fronts this season.
