Manager’s Preview

The boss says Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, Naomi Layzell and new signing Kerolin are all moving closer to starting ahead of our Women’s Subway League Cup semi-final with Arsenal.

The City boss hopes to have the same squad available for our rematch with the Gunners following the 4-3 defeat in the Women’s Super League on Sunday.

City have returned to training ahead of the game and Taylor says a busy fixture schedule and injuries have tested the depth of the squad.

“We checked with the players today on the training pitch, most have come through unscathed which is good and players are further down the road with starting,” the boss said in his prematch news conference.

“Bunny, Kerolin, Naomi Layzell, getting that training with those players will help us. From the weekend we’re pretty much as we were.

Previous meeting

A rematch comes just four days after our seven-goal thriller in the Women’s Super League between the two sides.

Unfortunately, City lost out 4-3 in a topsy-turvy game against the Gunners at the Joie Stadium.

Arsenal took the lead inside 60 seconds through Mariona Caldentey, with Lotte Wubben-Moy heading home a second before the 10-minute mark.

Goals from Mary Fowler and Vivianne Miedema set up an exciting second half in front of just under 5,000 fans at the Joie Stadium, before the visitors regained the lead through Frida Maanum.

Fowler made it 3-3 from the spot to make it three second half goals in ten minutes before Stina Blackstenius hit a late winner.
