Aston Villa have announced Villa Park's North Stand will be closed next season to help expedite stadium redevelopment.

The club revealed plans to revamp the ground four years ago, and moves to increase capacity to over 50,000 are stepping up ahead of hosting matches at Euro 2028.

Villa confirmed "an accelerated timeline for the major North Stand redevelopment" on Tuesday that will see that area of the stadium closed for the 2026/27 campaign.

The capacity will be reduced by 5,000 to approximately 37,000 next term, with the stand to reopen for the 2027/28 season and hospitality areas due to be completed in October 2027.

Francesco Calvo, the club's president of business operations, said: "Temporarily reducing Villa Park's capacity is not a decision we take lightly.

"However, it is the right decision and one that we have made with our supporters and the long-term future of the club at the heart of our thinking.

"By completing the redevelopment in one season, we reduce disruption, improve the Villa Park experience more quickly and ensure we are investing responsibly while remaining compliant with financial regulations."
