Aston Villa have been fined £570,000 by the Premier League after admitting responsibility for repeated late kick-offs across the 2026-27 campaign.
The Premier League said in a statement that rules on kick-offs and restarts are designed to uphold professional standards, give certainty to supporters and clubs, and keep broadcasts to time.
The first breach brought a £5,000 fine after last August’s 1-0 defeat at Brentford.
Sanctions escalated with each infringement. Following February’s 1-1 home draw with Leeds, when both halves began late and the second-half restart was almost two minutes overdue, Villa were fined £100,000.
March’s 4-1 home loss to Chelsea featured a delayed second-half kick-off. The club were fined £130,000 for that breach, with a further £20,000 added due to repeat offending, taking the total to £150,000.
Eight of the 10 delays were between 90 seconds and two minutes. Villa accepted and apologised for all breaches and pledged to tighten compliance with the rules.
