Aston Villa ‘remain a wall’ that Juventus will have to break through if they are to take goalkeeper Emi Martinez to Italy this summer.

The Argentine shot-stopper has been a key figure for Aston Villa since joining the club six years ago.

He was widely expected to leave last summer amid interest from several clubs and the club missing out on Champions League football, but ultimately stayed and helped Aston Villa qualify for the Champions League and lift the Europa League.

Martinez is once again attracting interest this summer, with Juventus, who emerged as admirers of the shot-stopper last month, leading the race to sign him from Aston Villa.

However, despite the interest, the Bianconeri are not willing to spend heavily on the Argentine in the transfer market, although a former Juventus goalkeeper believes that Martinez will be ‘worth every cent’ should he arrive from Aston Villa.

It was recently suggested that the Villains have been left ‘annoyed’ by Juventus’ strategy in their bid to sign the 33-year-old, with the Premier League club now determined to keep hold of the goalkeeper.

Juventus still remain keen to sign Martinez, but the crunch period to see if they can do so is approaching.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, Aston Villa ‘remain a wall’ and are blocking a move to Juventus for Martinez.

And ‘the next few days could be crucial’ to understanding if Juventus will be able to sign the Argentina goalkeeper./

It was suggested that the Juventus hierarchy have recently held talks with an intermediary representing the Argentine to ‘study the costs’ of signing him.

Matters do not, on the surface, appear to have moved forward though.

The 33-year-old remains Luciano Spalletti and Juventus CEO Giovanni Carnevali’s preferred choice to guard the goal next season, with a contract with the player already agreed.

Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio is expected to leave the club this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur boss Roberto De Zerbi among the admirers of the shot-stopper.
