Aston Villa have announced their second new signing of the summer transfer window.
Dutch goalkeeper Marco Bizot has joined younger compatriot Zépiqueno Redmond through the door at Bodymoor Heath after signing from Ligue 1 side Brest.
The 34-year-old started all but one of the French club’s Champions League matches in 2024/25 and has been their regular starting goalkeeper since joining from AZ in 2021.
Bizot kept the third-most clean sheets in Ligue 1 last season and also kept out both Red Bull Salzburg and PSV in Champions League wins.
He’s also racked up the most progressive passing yards in Ligue 1 in each of the last two seasons. Fun fact!
“It’s an amazing feeling,” Bizot told the club’s media team.
“I’m a little bit blown away by the professionalism of the club and the effort everyone put into it. I’m really proud and really happy to be here.
“It’s an amazing club, a big club, and it’s a dream to be at the highest level possible. The contact we’ve had in the last weeks has been of the highest level I’ve ever experienced in my life, and it made it an easy decision to join Aston Villa.”
Although the future of Emiliano Martínez is still up in the air, it’s clear that Bizot has been signed as a replacement for Robin Olsen, who left the club last month at the end of his contract.
Hoorn-born Bizot spent the early days of his career with Amsterdam giants Ajax before spells with fellow Eredivisie outfit Groningen and Belgium’s Genk. He has a single senior cap for the Netherlands.
