Aston Villa will look to put their difficult start to the season behind them when they travel to Everton on Saturday. This fixture has historically been a source of positive results for the club.
Unai Emery’s side are under intense pressure after a winless and goalless start has left them in the relegation zone. However, they travel to face an opponent they have dominated in recent years, holding a 12-match unbeaten streak and a four-game away clean sheet record against the Toffees.
Despite their dreadful form, this fixture represents Villa’s next opportunity to find a much-needed result and turn their campaign around.
Unai Emery’s selection is hampered by several key absences as he attempts to solve his side’s goalscoring crisis. The midfield is still without Boubacar Kamara (knee), while Matty Cash is a doubt with a quad injury.
A reunion for former Everton players Amadou Onana and Ross Barkley also looks unlikely as they struggle with a hamstring issue and match fitness, respectively. These issues compound the pressure on a team that has failed to score in its opening three games.
To address their struggles in front of the goal, Unai Emery is expected to shuffle his attacking options. Liverpool loanee Harvey Elliott is poised to make his debut and could provide the creativity Villa have been lacking from midfield.
Donyell Malen could also come into the side, tasked with supporting striker Ollie Watkins. The manager will be hoping this new attacking combinations can provide the spark required to get their season up and running.
Aston Villa predicted XI: Martinez; Konsa, Pau Torres, Mings, Digne; McGinn, Tielemans, Elliott; Malen, Watkins, Rogers
The Premier League fixture will be played at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday, 13 September 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm BST.
The match will not be broadcast live in the UK due to the 3pm blackout. Live text commentary and updates will be available via BBC Sport.
