Athletic to face Burgos under Sergio Francisco at El Plantío on one August | OneFootball

Athletic will play Burgos in a friendly at El Plantío on Saturday one August, kick-off at 19:00. The club announced the fixture on Wednesday.

It is the fourth confirmed pre-season game for Edin Terzic, following meetings with Derio, Leioa and Sestao on 15, 18 and 22 July.

Further friendlies are still to be confirmed, with the German coach aiming to play as many matches as possible to gauge his squad and base decisions on performance.

So far the announced opposition are modest. The Biscayan clubs are in Tercera Federación and Segunda Federación, while Burgos have just appointed Sergio Francisco, formerly of Real Sociedad, after finishing just short of the Primera División promotion play-offs.

Athletic will arrive in Burgos after three weeks of work. Terzic’s first session is scheduled for Wednesday eight July, with medicals starting on Monday six.

Training will build fitness and help the group adapt to the demands of the coach from Menden.

Athletic last visited El Plantío in summer 2024 and lost 2-1 under Ernesto Valverde. Yuri scored an own goal in the first minute, Florian doubled the hosts’ lead before Martón cut it.
