Earlier this week, Barcelona saw their chances of signing Julian Alvarez take a significant step in the right direction when the Argentine striker publicly expressed his desire to leave Atletico Madrid during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Although Alvarez’s public gesture is a massive boost for Barcelona in their chances of signing Alvarez, it could now arguably be more difficult to agree a deal with Atleti. The Riyadh Air Metropolitano club have been left furious with the situation – less so with their player, but more so with the Catalan side, whom they have reported to FIFA.
As per MD, there was initial anger from Atleti towards Alvarez, but that subsided rather quickly. Instead, they have pleaded with their star man not to seek a move away this summer – especially to a direct rival in Barcelona.
However, the report goes on to say that Alvarez has not moved his position one inch in spite of Atleti’s pleas. His desire is to join Barcelona, and he has no intention of accepting any offers that come his way from Paris Saint-Germain or Arsenal, whom have also shown interest in his services in recent weeks.
Alvarez is keen for Atleti to understand that he does not want to stay, and thus, the best thing would be to cash in and reinvest the money in their own transfer business. He is determined to secure his dream move, where he would have the chance to play alongside Pedri and Lamine Yamal, two players that he has a lot of admiration for.
It will be interesting to see how the situation with Alvarez plays out over the coming weeks. Barcelona are ready to make their next offer, although it is believed that it will not be sent to Atleti until after the 2026 World Cup is over.
