Atletico Madrid ‘to add’ Pau Navarro to summer shortlist | OneFootball

After prising Alex Baena from Villarreal last summer, Atletico Madrid could return to La Ceramica in 2026. They are assessing Pau Navarro as part of a planned defensive refresh.

Diario AS reports that sporting director Mateu Alemany has identified Navarro as a versatile option, capable of covering right-back and centre-back. The plan would address potential exits, with up to three defenders possibly leaving.

Rather than signing separate players for each role, Atleti are considering a single addition who fits both needs. Navarro is viewed as that profile.

The shift aligns with Atleti’s evolving policy towards recruiting young Spanish talents. Marc Pubill has been a revelation at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano in recent months, and Navarro could follow, joining the likes of Pubill and Rodrigo Mendoza.

Navarro has impressed for Villarreal this season. He began as a backup right-back, then became central to the back line after Juan Foyth suffered another long-term injury.

Villarreal are likely to consider offers, though their asking price is not yet known. Premier League clubs are also circling the 20-year-old, and all signs point to movement over the summer.
