Corinthians’ Ethics and Discipline Commission has questioned former president Augusto Melo over the 31 May 2025 invasion of Parque São Jorge by his supporters. Melo gave evidence via videoconference alongside his lawyer, Ricardo Jorge.
Gazeta Esportiva first reported the session, which was led by commission chair Leonardo Pantaleão. Melo said he had no prior knowledge of Maria Angela de Sousa Ocampos trying to declare herself CD president and overturn his nine August 2025 impeachment.
He added that supporters told him a document existed that could enable his return, claiming he remained the legitimate president. Interim president Osmar Stabile called the move a threat to democratic order.
After unsuccessful attempts to postpone, Maria Angela testified that she had been encouraged by people close to Melo to present the document.
A further 11 councillors are under scrutiny, with hearings for Peterson Ruan Aiello do Couto Ramos and Wanderson Contrera Salles scheduled. Mário Mello Júnior and Ronaldo Fernandez Tomé also sit on the commission.
The commission urged the temporary removal of those involved, warning of institutional risk, but its recommendation is non-binding. Conselho Deliberativo president Romeu Tuma Júnior rejected suspensions and did not send the issue to a plenary vote, citing lack of urgency and asking for quicker, individualised findings.
Melo’s defence also sought to remove rapporteur Rodrigo Bittar by filing embargos de declaração, alleging omissions, contradictions and prejudgment. Pantaleão rejected the filing, said such motions are not in the statute, and confirmed the case will proceed with Bittar.
