Bamba Dieng makes fresh airport U-turn as Amedspor move collapses | OneFootball

Bamba Dieng has aborted another transfer, refusing to board a flight as a proposed switch to Amedspor collapsed, reviving memories at Leeds United. The 26-year-old Senegal international is a free agent after leaving FC Lorient.

Initial claims in Türkiye suggested he had failed a medical, but Foot Mercato reports that he never even travelled, rejecting departure after late changes to the deal.

The report added that third-party intermediaries disrupted talks and that a hostile confrontation unfolded. Witnesses alleged agent Murat Ardiclik threatened Dieng’s representative, prompting the player’s camp to walk away.

On the first of September 2022, then Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani publicly welcomed Dieng after agreeing an £8.6 million fee with Marseille. As he waited on the tarmac at Nice airport, OGC Nice hijacked the move and he stepped off the plane to abandon his flight to West Yorkshire.

Leeds then pivoted to sign Wilfried Gnonto that night, a player now in line to depart this summer. Dieng remains synonymous with dramatic deadline-day U-turns.
