Barcelona have entered the race to sign Anthony Gordon and are in talks with Newcastle United over a deal.
Gordon is expected to leave Newcastle this summer after informing the club of his desire for a new challenge. Top teams in thePremier League and Europe are interested in signing Gordon, with Bayern Munich having reached an agreement with the 25-year-old on personal terms.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl did not name Gordon specifically, but revealed last week that the German giants have an agreement 'to sign an attacking player' if a fee can be agreed.
"We agree that we will sign an attacking player if he is affordable. We had a very good discussion and hope that we can make progress," he said.
However, Barcelona have now stepped up their pursuit and have held direct 'club to club' talks with Newcastle to discuss a fee, according toFabrizio Romano.
The Spanish champions want to strengthen their frontline amid Robert Lewandowski's exit and uncertainty around Marcus Rashford's future. The latter spent the 2025/26 season on loan at the Camp Nou, but interest in Gordon suggests Barcelona are not prioritising a permanent deal. Barcelona can sign Rashford for a fee of €30m as part of the initial loan arrangement.
Barcelona sporting director, Deco, was recently in the UK with a deal to sign Gordon the focus. Newcastle value the England international at around £75m, and are confident of receiving proposals in that region given the depth of suitors.
Gordon scored 17 goals in 46 appearances for the Magpies last season, including 10 in the UEFAChampions League.
The winger was an unused substitute across Newcastle's final four games of the season, with Eddie Howe admitted he has preparing for a potential exit.
“When you get to this stage of the season, part of what we will be doing is looking to next year, naturally,” Howe said.
“There are discussions that potentially might be happening but not with me.
“Anthony’s just come back from injury. The team has played well in his absence and it [leaving him on the bench was] was with a partial view to the future, yes. We are going into a summer where there are a lot of unknowns and there will be a lot of change for us.”
