Andreas Christensen’s future at FC Barcelona appears to be approaching a decisive moment.

The Danish defender’s contract with the Blaugrana expires this summer, but the club have already presented him with a renewal offer.

The proposal, however, comes with reduced financial terms and would extend his stay by just one season, with an option for a further year.

Despite barely featuring during the most recent season, the centre-back remains a sought-after player in the market.

Interest from England, Italy, and Greece

Indeed, according to SPORT, several Premier League clubs, as well as Serie A champions Inter Milan, have expressed interest in signing Christensen, leaving the final decision firmly in the player’s hands.

Alongside the offers from England and Italy, a new and somewhat unexpected option has emerged in recent days.

Greek giants Panathinaikos are seriously considering a move for the Barcelona defender. The Athens-based club are said to admire the 30-year-old star’s profile, particularly their newly appointed manager.

Jacob Neestrup will take charge of Panathinaikos next season following the departure of Rafa Benitez. The former Copenhagen coach knows Christensen exceptionally well from their shared Danish background and is driving the Greek giants’ interest in the defender.

Christensen likely to stay

However, other reports in Spain have suggested that Christensen has decided to accept Barcelona’s renewal offer despite the reduced terms being proposed.

Christensen’s latest campaign was heavily disrupted by injury. He managed to make only 18 appearances throughout the season, with 17 of those coming during the opening months.

Despite that, Hansi Flick & co. value the 30-year-old defender for his quality and professionalism, and the defender himself is happy and comfortable at the club.

As such, even though he has other offers, the Danish centre-back is expected to continue at Barcelona.
