Harry Kane has emerged as one of the biggest names in this summer’s transfer market, despite his stated desire to remain at Bayern Munich.

The England captain is under contract until 2027 but postponed discussions over a new deal until after the Club World Cup and his summer break.

Now, according to BILD (h/t SPORT), negotiations are set to begin in August, although reaching an agreement may not be straightforward, while Barcelona remain watching in the background.

While both Kane and Bayern are keen to continue their partnership, differences over the terms of a new contract could complicate the talks.

The two sides hope to reach an agreement before the end of the summer transfer window, as allowing negotiations to drag on would create uncertainty over the striker’s future.

Negotiating teams ready to meet

According to the report, the first round of talks is expected to take place shortly.

Representing Bayern will be sporting director Max Eberl and chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen, who played a key role in bringing Kane to Munich from Tottenham.

Kane’s negotiating team will include his father, Pat Kane, and his brother Charlie Kane, who has listened to interest from other clubs over the past year while consistently making it clear that Bayern would be given priority in any contract discussions.

Salary not the issue

Bayern are prepared to maintain Kane’s current salary rather than applying the wage reductions they typically introduce for players over the age of 30.

The club view Kane as an exceptional case and are willing to continue paying him around €25 million per season. As a result, financial terms are not expected to be the main obstacle.

The primary difference between the two parties concerns the length of the new agreement.

Bayern are prepared to extend Kane’s contract until 2029, while the striker is seeking a deal that would keep him at the club until 2030.

Kane believes he can continue performing at the highest level and wants the security of a four-year extension as he targets another World Cup with England.

Whether that disagreement can be resolved remains to be seen, with both sides hoping to reach a compromise rather than allowing negotiations to collapse.

Interest from Barcelona and Saudi Arabia

The report further mentions that Kane’s representatives have received approaches from Barcelona and Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal in recent weeks.

The Blaugrana are in the market for a top striker, and have admired Kane for a long time.

In addition, at least one English club has explored the possibility of bringing the striker back to his homeland, where he could continue his pursuit of Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record.

For now, however, Kane’s camp have rejected all outside interest.
