“Be the first choice” – Gary Lineker picks between Reece James and Alexander-Arnold | OneFootball

For Chelsea fans, this will always be the easiest choice to make, and for Liverpool fans, it will also be an easy choice.

Of course Chelsea fans are picking Reece James and Liverpool fans are picking Trent Alexander-Arnold. Although I’m not sure on the latter right now, as Liverpool fans seem to have a real dislike for their right back at the moment due to him heading off to join Real Madrid soon!

Either way, they are both two very good players. James has finally been able to sustain some regular games and good form in a Chelsea shirt, avoiding any big injury issues for almost a year now. This has worked in his favour as he’s been able to get a regular role for England under Thomas Tuchel as well.

We know that Tuchel loves James, he always has done. So I think that James will have that on his side as well right now.

But with Alexander-Arnold there as well, Tuchel will have a big decision to make when he has them both fit and available, especially leading up to the World Cup this summer.

Shearer and Lineker debate it

On the latest episode of The Rest Is Football, Alan Shearer is quick to pick the Chelsea man for his England XI, and while Lineker agrees at this moment, he isn’t closing the door on the former Liverpool star.

He says: “I think he [James] would probably be the first choice at the moment.

“At the minute, Trent’s not getting much football, but Trent at his best is, I mean, what a player. Gives you different options.”

Both have something to offer

Both players are class and have different traits and something different to offer – so it will always be a debate.

For me though, it’s Reece James every single time.
