There’s been a lot to like about this season at Chelsea, but one of the nicest things we’ve enjoyed most is…

…We almost don’t want to say it out loud, in case we jinx it. But… Reece James’s fitness.

The right back has now reached the 12 month mark since his proper injury – something we thought we might never be able to say again. He’s in the England squad for this international break, and we’re not as worried as we would have been not long ago.

Kieran Gill’s piece about James for the Daily Mail on the one year anniversary of his last injury has lots of interesting snippets about how the full back has turned his situation around, with the help of a revamped medical staff and his manager Enzo Maresca.

“Playing regularly is paramount in James’ mind, and Chelsea have done well to build him up to a point where he can perform in three games per week if needed,” the piece claims.

In fact, we saw James play against Tottenham and Qarabag last week – not 3 in 7 days but 2 in 3 is almost as impressive.

“As well as the coaching and medical teams, he privately credits the club’s performance department – led by Bryce Cavanagh, formerly of the FA – with helping him reach this stage of availability. It involved tailoring his training schedule, studying his output from such sessions and gradually increasing his game time.”

Chelsea’s back line is missing it’s other physical beast – but Axel Disasi is set to be reintegrated to first team training this month, according to Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports.

One player who Solhekol things could leave is Tyrique George, who came close to a departure in the summer and now could complete a move away to get more game time.
