Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has revealed why he was happy to let striker Nicolas Jackson leave the club this summer.
Jackson completed a deadline day loan move to Bayern Munich, which includes an obligation to buy based on making a certain number of appearances.
The 24-year-old had fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of both Liam Delap and Joao Pedro in the summer.
Jackson scored 30 goals across his two seasons at the club, and even signed a two year contract extension last year, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2033.
However, he opted to seek a new challenge away from Chelsea, although Jackson did admit he was sad to leave the club.

Jackson will be reunited with his former team-mates much sooner than anyone would have expected as Chelsea take on Bayern in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Senegal international is eligible for the game, and Chelsea will be hoping Jackson doesn’t find the back of the net against them.
Jackson is thought to be on good terms with his former team-mates, and Maresca has now revealed why he was happy to let the striker leave in the summer.
“Because we both chose two strikers, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro,” he told his pre-match press conference.
“I think having two strikers is a good number, it is enough.”
In Jackson’s absence Pedro has hit the ground running and has made an instant impact following his move from Brighton.

However, with Delap sidelined until November with a hamstring injury, there’s even more pressure on Pedro to deliver and stay fit.
Pedro will likely lead the line on Wednesday in Munich, whilst Chelsea’s alternatives are youngsters Tyrique George and Marc Guiu, who both lack experience at the top level.
