Benfica are planning for life after José Mourinho, with Ruben Amorim an option but Marco Silva viewed by the board as the leading candidate.
Mourinho, 63, is said to have confirmed he will leave Benfica, with an agreement in place with Real Madrid and only the announcement to come.
According to A Bola, initial talks have been held with Marco Silva, who is represented by Jorge Mendes, also the agent of Mourinho.
Silva, 48, is out of contract at Fulham and is waiting for Rui Costa to get the house in order before deciding. Ruben Amorim is reportedly planning a sabbatical, which further strengthens Silva’s standing inside the club.
Silva continues to await a formal invitation from Benfica, while he also has an offer to extend at Fulham.
Rui Costa’s priority is to clarify the timing and mechanics of Mourinho’s exit. The separation is expected to cost between 3 and 7 million euros, depending on which party triggers it. No concrete move on Silva is anticipated until that is settled.
