Benfica have provisionally suspended five supporters over alleged racist gestures aimed at Vinicius during the Champions League play-off first leg against Real Madrid.
The club said in a statement on Friday that a disciplinary process had identified racist conduct in the stands, incompatible with its values, and it cannot tolerate any form of discrimination or racism.
The move comes 10 days after the incident involving Gianluca Prestianni and Vinicius, after which UEFA opened an investigation and the Argentinian was provisionally suspended.
The first leg, which Madrid won 1-0, was halted for nearly 10 minutes by French referee François Letexier.
The five fans have been suspended on an interim basis while the club’s disciplinary proceedings continue.
