Benfica’s hierarchy, led by president Rui Costa, are closely tracking Franjo Ivanovic’s progress as they shape plans for the forward. Record reports that the club could consider selling the Croatia international if a favourable offer arrives, despite his growing tactical value to José Mourinho.

Recent displays have underlined Ivanovic’s usefulness, but they do not guarantee his continued place in the squad. The club would be prepared to negotiate his future if the terms suit.

Mourinho’s staff have been impressed with his development, seeing clear improvement since the start of the campaign through his work in training.

On that basis, there is a belief he merits more opportunities in the run-in. Ivanovic also continues to target a national-team call-up as Croatia prepare for the next World Cup.

This season Ivanovic, valued at €18 million, has played 41 competitive matches for Benfica, comprising 23 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 11 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal and two in the Taça da Liga. In 1,291 minutes he has scored eight goals and provided two assists.
