Bernard says Corinthians, Flamengo and Palmeiras were among several clubs that tried to sign him before his return to Atlético-MG, but he prioritised Galo despite richer offers. “There were many, about three or four offers to come back. Whenever my agent brought one, I said, ‘Adriano, I do not want to hear it, I want to talk to Galo and agree my return’,” he told Rádio 98FM.

“We spoke with Corinthians, Flamengo, Palmeiras as well, more than once. They even offered more money than Atlético, but I wanted to come back to Galo, I had promised and it was my wish.”

The 33-year-old was announced by Atlético at the start of 2024, then arrived in Belo Horizonte mid-year after 11 years abroad.

He left the club in August 2013 when Shakhtar Donetsk paid 25 million euros, roughly R$ 77 million at the time.

Subsequent spells followed at Everton, Al Sharjah and Panathinaikos.

Back at Atlético, he endured a mixed start and needed time to fit different coaches. In 2026 he turned his form around and is now a starter under Eduardo Domínguez.

This season he has 29 appearances, five goals and two assists, and his contract runs until the end of 2027.
