Bernard reveals talks with Corinthians before 2024 Atlético Mineiro return | OneFootball

Atlético Mineiro forward Bernard says he held talks with Corinthians before rejoining the club in 2024, choosing a return to Belo Horizonte despite financially stronger proposals.

"We did speak to Corinthians, Flamengo and Palmeiras as well. It happened more than once. They offered more money than Atlético. I had not spoken about it, but there were proposals. I wanted to go back to Galo, I had promised and it was my wish," he told Rádio 98FM on Tuesday.

"There were many offers, about three or four, to come back. Whenever my agent brought them, I said, 'Look, Adriano, I do not want to hear it, I want to talk to Galo, to reach a consensus for my return. I did not think about holding an auction, I just wanted to speak with the board so I could come back'.

He did not provide details on Corinthians' approach. In 2022 he denied he was in talks with the Parque São Jorge club while playing for Al Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.

This is Bernard's second spell at Atlético Mineiro, though he has only regained a leading role this season. He has made 29 appearances, scoring five goals and supplying two assists.

Corinthians are the third opponents he has faced most often, and he has only one win against them. He featured in Corinthians' 1-0 home victory over Atlético Mineiro at Neo Química Arena on 24 May in the Brasileirão.
