Bernardo Silva has agreed to join Real Madrid on a deal running to June 2028, with an option for one more year, after rejecting Benfica, according to Glorioso 1904.
He had been linked with Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, MLS clubs and Al Nassr, but his priority was to remain at the top level in Europe. The chance to work with José Mourinho is thought to have been important.
The midfielder ends a nine-season spell at Manchester City, a period laden with silverware. Highlights include one Champions League, a Club World Cup and six Premier League titles, alongside further domestic trophies.
Silva is set to become the fourth addition of Mourinho’s new era at the Santiago Bernabéu. After Marc Cucurella’s arrival, Madrid are also working on Ibrahima Konaté and Denzel Dumfries, and the move should be formalised after Portugal’s 2026 World Cup campaign.
In 2025/26 for City, Silva played 53 matches, 38 in the Premier League, eight in the Champions League, three in the League Cup and four in the FA Cup. Across 3,854 minutes he recorded three goals and five assists, and is valued at 22 million euros.
