“With Ole Book, we have been able to bring our desired candidate for the position of sporting director to BVB. I have followed his outstanding work in Elversberg, first as sporting director and most recently as board member for sport, for a long time and am absolutely convinced that Ole is a great fit for us, both professionally and personally,” explains Borussia Dortmund's sporting director, Lars Ricken. “With him in charge of sporting matters, Elversberg made the leap from the Regionalliga to the top of the second division, developing many young talents along the way and simultaneously building squad value. We have great confidence in Ole and his expertise when it comes to developing creative and bold ideas in the transfer market.”

Book was born in Beckum, and played for Rot Weiss Ahlen, MSV Duisburg and SV Wehen Wiesbaden, before ending his professional career in the summer of 2017. Later that same year, he started as a scout for SV Elversberg. In 2018, Book became sporting director at Elversberg, before being promoted to board member for sport in 2023. Book celebrated two promotions with Elversberg (2022 and 2023), leading the club from the Regionalliga to the 2. Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund's spokesperson for the management board, Carsten Cramer, emphasised: “We are delighted to sign Ole Book as our new sporting director. Although he is still young, he already possesses a wealth of experience in the industry. In our discussions, we quickly realised that Ole is extremely eager for success, has high ambitions, and also has a tremendous team spirit. This aligns perfectly with our values and what we want to embody at Borussia Dortmund. Now, the focus is on shaping the future of our club in a bold and successful manner. That is what drives us.”

Ole Book says: “Borussia Dortmund are one of the biggest clubs in Europe, and I'm very excited to be fully involved. I want to do my part to ensure BVB's continued success, and I'm looking forward to contributing my ideas and convictions and working with a strong team. Borussia Dortmund are very special for me, with an emotional connection dating back to my childhood. That's why I would like to thank SV Elversberg, and especially Dominik Holzer, for allowing me to start my work in Dortmund right away.”

In relation to the signing of Book, Carsten Cramer emphasised once more: “On behalf of Borussia Dortmund, I would like to thank Dominik Holzer and SV Elversberg for the extremely cooperative and very respectful interaction today.” Borussia Dortmund will officially present Ole Book at a press conference on Wednesday.
