Kovač puzzled by Beier Germany snub | OneFootball

Niko Kovač says he struggles to understand why Julian Nagelsmann left out Maximilian Beier from Germany’s latest squad.

According to BuLi News, the Borussia Dortmund coach spoke after Dortmund’s 3-2 win over Hamburger SV at the weekend.

Despite strong recent form, Beier was not called up this month. He has seven Germany appearances and, most recently against Hamburger SV, won two penalties.

"Personally, I would have brought him along, but I am not the national team coach," Kovač told reporters.

He said there were many reasons to pick Beier and fewer not to, while stressing the decision rests with the national coach.

"His performances speak for themselves," Kovač said. "But I believe he will go to the World Cup. Because you need his qualities at a World Cup."
