A classified advert listing the majority stakes in Olympique Lyonnais, Botafogo and RWD Brussels, formerly Molenbeek, held by Eagle Football Holdings Bidco has prompted a sharp response from the Brazilian club’s president.
Published in the Financial Times, the notice said the company holds shares in three football clubs and is selling its principal assets, namely its majority holdings.
“It is extremely unpleasant to end up in the classifieds in England, ‘I am selling a car, I am selling Botafogo and Lyon’,” said Joao Paulo Magalhaes. He told CNN Brasil.
He added: “It is a procedure that the court-appointed administrator designated by the English courts must carry out to put the assets on the market, try to obtain offers for these assets and pay creditors in the best possible way.”
Eagle Bidco, based in London, was placed under administration at the end of March, which effectively removed American businessman John Textor from its leadership.
