Brazilian refs set for first in next Libertadores and Sul-Americana ties

Brazilian refereeing will reach an unprecedented milestone in the next round of CONMEBOL competitions. Three Libertadores matches and two Sudamericana matches, valid for the 5th round, will have crews made up of Brazilian professionals: Independiente del Valle x Libertad, Rosario Central x Universidad Central, Coquimbo Unido x Tolima, América de Cali x Tigre, and Macará x Alianza Atlético.

In the Libertadores, Anderson Daronco will officiate Independiente del Valle x Libertad, Flavio Rodriguez de Souza will be in charge of Rosario Central x Universidad Central, and Wilton Pereira Sampaio will handle Coquimbo Unido x Tolima.

In the Sudamericana, Bruno Arleu de Araújo will officiate América de Cali x Tigre, and Matheus Delgado Candançan will be in charge of Macará x Alianza Atlético.

“This representation is very important. It shows that our referees are on the rise and still have plenty of room to develop even further. And this is the result of work and investment, not only in the team, but also in the training of our professionals. We have the use of technology combined with the process of professionalization and qualification of referees. And it is worth remembering that we will still have nine Brazilian representatives at the World Cup,” celebrated Netto Góes, Refereeing Director of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).

“It shows recognition of the work carried out by the CBF and the Refereeing Committee. All these referees are part of the PRO Group, the professional refereeing group. This group has been training daily. This proves that we are on the right path. We had never seen so many Brazilian referees working across South America as we have this week. There will be five full crews. Based on the numbers, the assignments, and the appointments, we are a reference in the Americas and one of the main references in world refereeing. Today, we send referees to various parts of the world such as the Middle East, Europe, Central America, and North America. All of this happens, of course, because of our daily work, our training, and our continuous improvement, for which we are provided the structure by the current CBF administration and, especially, by the enthusiasm and support of our President Samir,” said Rodrigo Cintra, president of the CBF Refereeing Committee.
