Real Madrid thrashed familiar foes Manchester City in the Champions League round of 16 to set up a mouth-watering quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich.
The record-time European champions put on a strong performance in the first leg, with Federico Valverde’s first continental hat-trick inspiring them to a dominant 3-0 victory.
Bernardo Silva’s early dismissal in the return leg handed Madrid a decisive boost, although they left it late to beat Pep Guardiola’s side 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium.
Los Blancos have advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals for the sixth consecutive season, while also securing a welcome financial windfall, according to Spanish outlet AS.
Despite lagging four points behind arch-rivals Barcelona in a fierce La Liga title race, the 15-time European champions have pieced together another formidable continental campaign.
Madrid’s deep Champions League run has poured around €100 million into the club’s coffers, just as they did last season, when runaway Premier League leaders Arsenal stopped them in the quarter-finals.
The Spanish heavyweights have already earned €63.1m purely from their on-field achievements this season.
Despite missing out on an automatic last-16 qualification, they’ve taken home €36.6m for finishing ninth in the group stage.
Reaching the round of 16 has brought €11m into Madrid’s coffers, while advancing to the quarter-finals has added a further €12.5m.
In addition to their earnings from on-field performance, the Spaniards can also count on gate receipts from the six matches already held at the Santiago Bernabeu.
They have generated additional revenue from ticket sales, which for Champions League knockout matches typically hover around €10m per game.
There’s no doubt that the Bernabeu will be sold out when the Bavarians roll into town on April 7.
