Inter Milan and AC Milan have informed Milano Mayor Giuseppe Sala they don’t wish to go forward with the San Siro renovation project.

The mayor has been desperately trying to keep the two Serie A giants within his city walls while each club has been reflecting on a separate project.

The Nerazzurri are considering building a new stadium in Rozzano, while the Rossoneri went for San Donato. These are two regions on the outskirts of Milano.

Therefore, Sala has entrusted WeBuild with the San Siro restyling project.

The suggested plan would have allowed the current Giuseppe Meazza Stadium to remain active during the renovation works. It would also transmit the ownership to the two clubs in the future.

WeBuild presented Inter and Milan with a detailed plan in June. The two clubs have been carefully studying the proposition ahead of today’s crunch meeting with the mayor.

But according to Calcio e Finanza via FcInterNews, the two Serie A sides have turned down the plan.

They have communicated their shared decision through their respective representatives. This includes Inter Corporate CEO Alessandro Antonello, Oaktree official Katherine Ralph and AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani.

On the other hand, the Nerazzurri and their crosstown rivals would like to build a new stadium in the San Siro region.

The two clubs believe a new and modern ground would be more beneficial than restyling the old stadium.

So it remains to be seen if the two clubs will manage to find common ground with Sala and the municipality of Milano on this alternative idea.
