After a slow start to the season, London City Lionesses have logged two wins on the bounce, and they’re looking for a third this weekend.

First it was their maiden win in the Barclays Women’s Super League, coming from behind to beat Everton 2-1 – and that was followed this week by a comeback win in the Subway Women’s League Cup over Crystal Palace, with goals from Sanni Franssi and Nikita Parris.

Next up on Sunday will be Manchester City, who present a rather different challenge. They sit fourth in the WSL table, and come in to the game having won every match this season except for their opener against defending champions Chelsea.

And they too had a midweek cup win as they swatted aside Everton 3-1.

But head coach Jocelyn Precheur says that his team will go into the encounter with confidence.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to compete with one of the best teams of this game – a great opportunity to play, great opportunity to improve, great opportunity to get some experience and test our level, and hopefully a great opportunity to show we are able to compete,” Precheur told SheKicks.net in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon.

“So only positive vibes for this game, and everyone is very excited, including me, for sure.”

Jocelyn Precheur: London City Lionesses have more energy

Having conceded nine goals in their opening two WSL fixtures, stringing together a couple of victories has made a real difference to the camp, he said – adding that although it had been a good week for him, it was more importantly a good week for the team: “It’s encouraging, and it’s given us more energy to keep working and keep working.”

Precheur had mentioned several times in previous interviews that one of his primary tasks was to create a team, not just a starting eleven, and that creating cohesion would not be instant.

“We follow the process. Things take time, especially to know more about each other – you cannot create cohesion in just two or three days, because when I talk about cohesion, I [am also talking about trusting] each other, know each other, on the pitch and also out of the pitch, so nothing specific [that has been different].

“We stay focused on our dynamic.”

London City Lionesses travel to the Joie Stadium on Sunday, 28th September to face Manchester City, kicking off at 12 noon.
