Bukayo Saka is due to undergo a scan as Arsenal wait to learn the extent of the injury that forced him off during England’s defeat by Greece.

The Gunners winger was substituted six minutes into the second half of Thursday night’s shock 2-1 loss at Wembley and left the pitch holding the back of his right leg.

England interim boss Lee Carsley confirmed after the match that Saka had to be taken off after feeling some discomfort in the build-up to Greece’s first goal, which came a few minutes before he was substituted.

“He’s being assessed,” said Carsley. “In the build-up to the first goal, you could see he felt something in his leg.”

Saka is now set to undergo a scan and a further update on his fitness is expected on Saturday, when Carsley will hold a press conference ahead of England’s next Nations League clash in Finland on Sunday.

The winger looks to be a serious doubt for that game after limping off against Greece and Arsenal will be hoping he has not suffered any major damage.

The Gunners suffered a big blow during the last international break when captain Martin Odegaard injured his ankle playing for Norway.

Odegaard has not played since then and has been working on his recovery at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground to get back to full fitness.

Arsenal are next in action after the current international break when they travel to Bournemouth on October 19, before hosting Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League three days later. Mikel Arteta’s side then have a huge game against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on October 27.

Saka has been in stunning form for Arsenal so far this season and has seven assists to his name in the Premier League, which is more than any other player. The 23-year-old is also ranked first in the league for both chances and big chances created.
