CAF annuls Senegal AFCON title and awards Morocco as players react online | OneFootball

CAF has stripped Senegal of their Africa Cup of Nations title and awarded it to Morocco, prompting baffled and amused reactions from Senegal players online.

According to Le Progres, the Confederation of African Football reattributed the crown on Tuesday evening, two months after Senegal had won the final 1-0 after extra time. The body cited incidents and protests, including Senegal’s brief walk-off following a Morocco penalty.

The decision declares Morocco 3-0 winners by forfeit.

Olympique Lyonnais defender Moussa Niakhaté swiftly posted Instagram stories posing with the trophy, urging rivals to come and take it and calling them crazy.

Pathé Ciss also shared a shot with the trophy alongside laughing emojis. Former Marseille winger Ismaïla Sarr likewise chose to laugh at the announcement.

By Tuesday night the Senegalese federation had not issued an official response, though its X account reposted a video of players with the trophy. A 28 March cup presentation at the Stade de France, planned before a friendly against Peru, now looks compromised.
