The Carabao Cup quarter-finals begin in south Wales tonight. Chelsea make the trip to Cardiff looking to become the first team to book their spot in the last four and quieten some of the noise around the club that has arisen following Enzo Maresca’s recent remarks. Following a victory over Everton that ended their four-game winless run, the Blues boss made headlines by revealing that he had endured “the worst 48 hours” of his reign amid a lack of “support”, but would not elaborate any further.

It has led to speculation over Maresca’s future at Chelsea, who are without Cole Palmer this evening as he continues to be carefully managed upon his return from injury. Marc Cucurella is suspended, though Moises Caicedo is back in domestic contention after his own ban. Looking to heap more uncertainty on Chelsea is a Cardiff side managed by Brian Barry-Murphy, a former colleague of Maresca’s at Manchester City.
