Carl Rushworth completes permanent Coventry City switch from Brighton | OneFootball

Carl Rushworth has completed a permanent move to Coventry City after starring in their Championship title-winning campaign last season. The former England under-21 international departs Brighton and Hove Albion.

Albion sporting director Mike Cave said Rushworth had an excellent season, that both parties wanted the deal made permanent, and that the club respect his wish to secure regular Premier League football with Coventry.

The fee is undisclosed, though it is believed to be an initial £22.5 million, rising to £30 million if certain targets are met. Brighton have also secured a sizeable sell-on clause and a buy-back option.

Sky Blues boss Frank Lampard was keen to bring Rushworth back as he plans for the top flight.

Rushworth has progressed through the leagues with a series of loans since joining Brighton from Halifax Town in 2019.

The 25-year-old was linked with Newcastle, albeit speculatively, but a Coventry return always looked the likeliest outcome.
