Manchester United’s recruitment, especially when it comes to young players, has been spot on since INEOS took over the club’s sporting affairs.
Leny Yoro is a prime example, and Diego Leon is expected to follow suit. The Paraguayan arrived this summer and has already impressed with his energy and work rate during pre-season.
While he is yet to make his first-team debut, so convinced is Ruben Amorim of his qualities that the club decided to loan out Harry Amass while keeping Leon at the club.
Given the 18-year-old has arrived at such a big club from Cerro Porteno, the Red Devils will obviously take it easy with his development.
And as per The Daily Mail, Casemiro has taken him under his wing and treats him like his younger brother. Who better to learn from than the five-time Champions League winner!
The South American connection will help the left-back settle that much quicker. And club sources feel Casemiro’s professionalism will eventually rub off on the Paraguay U20 international.
“Casemiro can be a serious figure, one who does not play about his work, but his positivity is said to have been infectious in recent weeks and months.
“Paraguayan wing-back Diego Leon has been taken under Casemiro’s wing as a little brother. Many staff hope Casemiro’s intense levels of professionalism stick with the teenage defender.”
He was on the bench for United’s disappointing defeat to Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup, while the head coach also picked him as part of the matchday squad for the Manchester derby.
With Luke Shaw struggling at the back, and Patrick Dorgu yet to reach the heights expected of him, there is a chance we might see the young Paraguayan wonderkid in action soon.
He is very attack-minded, as seen from the two goals he scored for Cerro Porteno last season, something that will suit Amorim’s demands.
But with the pressure on Amorim increasing by the day, it will be intriguing to see if he opts for the youngster anytime soon.
