CBF release VAR audio of Vitória defender’s red card against Palmeiras citing excessive force

Palmeiras beat Vitória 4-0 in the Campeonato Brasileiro on Wednesday, a match shaped by two dismissals for the visitors.

On Thursday morning the CBF released the VAR audio for the red card shown to Cacá after a challenge on Jhon Arias, and announced that the dismissal was correctly given after a VAR recommendation.

The assessment cited excessive force, with the studs catching the opponent’s leg.

Abel Ferreira reviewed the key incidents, calling the first sending off borderline and accepting that opinions may differ. He said there was no doubt over the second and that the referee followed the law, also referencing Luan Cândido’s history.

On Mauricio’s challenge, he judged it a 50-50 and noted that the referee and VAR chose a yellow card. He added that he saw no doubts in the other decisions.
