CBF releases VAR audio on Vitória dismissals of Cacá and Luan Cândido | OneFootball

The federation released on Thursday morning the audio between the VAR and referee Alex Gomes Stefano covering the dismissals of Cacá and Luan Cândido during Palmeiras' 4-0 win at Barradão on Wednesday.

At 25 minutes of the first half, Mauricio caught Cacá with an arm to the chin. The defender required treatment for a cut and received five stitches. Stefano booked the Palmeiras midfielder and there was no VAR recommendation to review.

Stefano later dismissed two Vitória defenders three minutes apart. The first red, at 36 minutes, followed a VAR intervention for Cacá’s foul on Arias, which was viewed as serious foul play after he missed the ball and made high, studs-first contact.

Having not initially awarded a foul, the referee checked the monitor and upgraded the sanction to red for excessive force.

Soon after, Luan Cândido made a robbery gesture at the referee. The VAR advised a review for a possible dismissal, and Stefano ruled the act clear then sent off the Vitória player.
