CBF plans to introduce semi-automatic offside right after the World Cup, aiming to go live in the 20th round of the 2026 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. According to Globo.com, two full rounds will be used as live trials beforehand.

The federation has completed installation and initial tests at 19 top-flight stadiums over the weekend. Live trials are scheduled for rounds 18 and 19, the latter after the World Cup, covering 20 matches. The first rehearsal is set for next weekend across 10 fixtures.

Last week, installations were completed at Arena Fonte Nova, Vila Belmiro, São Januário, Maião and Mangueirão. The initial rollout will cover 19 venues selected to serve all Série A teams. Every site will now go through calibration and system testing.

About 30 mobile devices are required inside each stadium, along with power and internet connectivity. The Brasileiro had been slated to start with the technology, but activation was delayed while visits were carried out to all intended venues, with a target of registering 27 stadiums.

The technology is supplied by Genius, which also services the Premier League and the leagues of Belgium and Mexico. It involves installing around 30 iPhone 16 Pro or 17 Pro handsets per ground. The phones record the entire match in 4k at 100 frames per second to create a digital replica of play.
