Championship clubs have approved new spending rules that will give West Brom and Wolves greater financial freedom from next season.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, second-tier sides have been under profit and sustainability rules since 2017/18, allowing £39m losses over three years. Albion are among those sanctioned.
The Premier League earlier this season confirmed it would move to a squad cost ratio capping player costs at 85 per cent of football revenue and allowing a £10 million annual capital injection.
Albion backed the change and Friday's EFL meeting confirmed adoption after 20 of the 24 clubs voted in favour, with 16 required.
Wolves, set to be relegated, had no vote as they remain a Premier League club, but will benefit next season.
Albion have championed the switch since Shilen Patel's Bilkul Football bought the club from Guochuan Lai more than two years ago. Last month they were docked two points for breaching PSR limits, then chose not to appeal after receiving written reasons, having secured safety.
The ratio shifts focus to revenue and could let owners speculate further. Elsewhere, League One clubs were set to vote on cutting permitted spending to 50 per cent of turnover, while a salary cap is not being put to a vote.
