A curious link in Spain has popped up connecting Chelsea with Antonio Blanco, who plays for Alaves in La Liga.

A new manager being appointed at a club often leads to some curious transfer links, as journalists try to think of new angles for players the new man might be interested in.

With Xabi Alonso coming to Chelsea, that has mainly meant lots of his former Leverkusen and Madrid players being linked. That’s to be expected, but there are some more curious links too.

Chelsea could take a punt on €10m midfielder

Take today’s connection of Alaves midfielder Antonio Blanco to the Blues. The Alaves midfielder looks solid in mid-tabe La Liga, but we’ve not heard him linked to teams on Chelsea’s level yet. In fact, we haven’t heard much about him before.

Still, according to the Fichajes report, Alonso has taken a shine to him and wants him at Chelsea. The 25 year old would be a “low risk operation” for the Blues as his price would apparently not be far above €10m.

This one feels like a massive long shot, but we’ll keep our eyes on it…

Chelsea have been linked with a Sporting player, but his club are hoping to secure him on a new contract to ward off interest.

Alex Scott is another player Chelsea are being linked with heavily in recent weeks. His team want him to sign a new contract to protect themselves from hungry Blues.
