WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blues this morning.
The 20-year-old joins Chelsea from Azerion Vrouwen Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar. The youngster has been with AZ for the last two seasons, making 32 appearances for the club in the Dutch top flight. The player previously turned out for FC Uitgeest and VV Alkmaar.
On the international stage, Liefting has represented The Netherlands at various youth levels. She has been called into the senior squad but is yet to make her debut for The Orange Lionesses.
After joining Chelsea, Liefting said “It is really amazing. I am so proud. It is just such a big club. I’m really honoured to be here.”
The Blues’ head of women’s football, Paul Green also added “Femke is an exciting goalkeeper whom we have been tracking over the last few years. She has vast experience for a player of her age, with over 50 senior appearances in the Dutch league already, to go alongside an illustrious career so far with the Dutch youth national teams. We look forward to seeing her development continue in the upcoming years.”
Chelsea completed the signing of Liefting ahead of last night’s transfer deadline.
