It couldn’t be lined up any better for Chelsea at Everton today.

Our Champions League hopes have been fading in the last few weeks, but we’ve been given a huge lifeline by the results around us already this weekend.

Manchester United got a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth last night, and Liverpool followed that up with a defeat to Brighton today. Aston Villa play a desperate West Ham team tomorrow. There’s a great chance that all three of them drop points, and we simply have to make sure we get a win this evening to capitalise.

Champions League race coming down to the wire

With just a handful of games left, each matchday swings things massively. A win today puts us ahead of Liverpool and level with Aston Villa ahead of their game tomorrow. We would be four points behind Manchester United – but with a game against the Red Devils still to come.

All of that is meaningless if we can’t get up off the mat and get the job done today. We aren’t hopeful – but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t excited.

In other news…

Chelsea’s team news for today’s game has a slightly unexpected name at centre back.

Enzo Fernandez is pushing for an exit from Chelsea, and there’s a rising level of conviction he might actually go this summer.
