Eray Comert’s season has flipped from fringe to fundamental, and it has earned him a Switzerland recall. According to Superdeporte, the Valencia centre-back seized his chance amid injuries elsewhere and turned himself into a dependable pick. His rise has come at a critical point for a side seeking stability.
His redebut for the national team came in a friendly against Germany that ended 3-4. He replaced Nico Elvedi and played the final 12 minutes, showing composure and winning an aerial duel. The contest was ultimately settled by a Florian Wirtz goal.
Once fourth-choice at Mestalla, Comert has strung together assured displays in the second half of the campaign. Clean distribution, sound positioning and authority in the air have restored trust among staff and supporters.
Before this month, Comert’s last Switzerland outing was on 25 March 2025 against Luxembourg, when he featured for 89 minutes. The latest call-up indicates he is back in the selector’s thoughts with the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada on the horizon. He could cement a place if he sustains this level.
It represents more than a simple call-up, it confirms a marked change in his standing. Months of consistent work have reshaped how he is viewed for club and country.
Even so, his short-term future is unresolved. The defender’s contract expires this summer at Valencia, and there is no clarity yet on continuity. Recent form could prompt a renewal or attract other suitors.
