Filip Ugrinic will not join up with Switzerland because of patellar tendon discomfort, and will remain in Paterna to recover. He missed Saturday’s match at Sevilla’s Sánchez Pizjuán.

El Desmarque reports that he has been withdrawn from the friendlies against Germany and Norway. The decision was taken with coach Carlos Corberán and the club’s head of medical services.

Valencia considered letting him travel to be assessed by federation doctors, but that option was dismissed. Ugrinic has prioritised Valencia over his desire to return to the national squad with the World Cup around the corner.

On Friday, Corberán outlined that Ugrinic had renewed patellar tendon pain, while Titi had a hamstring issue. He confirmed both players were unavailable for the Sevilla fixture.

There is no return date. The tendon problem could keep Ugrinic out for days or weeks, and his progress will determine the timeline. Corberán would welcome his return, as the Swiss has become important in recent months alongside the team’s improvement.
