Charlton Athletic have beaten off competition from clubs in the Championship and in League One to an exciting acquisition
As the 2025/26 Championship campaign draws to a close, Charlton Athletic can reflect on a steadying season under Nathan Jones after achieving promotion via the League One play-offs.
The Addicks enjoyed a blistering start to life back in the second-tier for the first time in five years and while Jones was unable to maintain that level of form, they've hardly been in serious bother at the other end of the table either.
There were faint fears about being dragged into a relegation battle following the turn of the year, but Charlton's largely-solid form throughout the campaign has positioned the South London outfit in 18th place and eight points clear of the drop zone with just five matches to spare.
A productive summer transfer window, then, following what has shaped up to represent a rather mixed spending spree last time out, could be exactly what's required in order to propel Charlton further up the table, but they're already getting business done and a new arrival at the Valley has now been confirmed before the campaign's conclusion.
The player in question is highly-rated prospect Josh Hebert, who has decided to put pen to paper on a professional agreement with Charlton after impressing on trial in recent weeks.

Charlton are signing Hebert from National League South outfit Dorking Wanderers, for whom the left-sided winger made 13 senior appearances across all competitions throughout the current campaign before trialling with the Addicks' under-21 setup.
Dorking have now confirmed that the 18-year-old has signed for Charlton, who have fended off no shortage of competition amid strong reported interest from Hull City and Reading to secure his sought-after signature.
Hebert had turned heads with Dorking's age-group sides and made a similarly-strong impression throughout his trial period with Charlton, which saw him find the back of the net in fixtures against Millwall, Swansea City, Peterborough United and AFC Bournemouth.
There's no indication that Hebert is going to force his way into Jones' first-team picture straight away, although the eventual plan will be for the teenager to become a star at Championship level and he could be in the perfect place to do exactly that.
Charlton have an encouraging track record when it comes to recruiting stars lower down the footballing pyramid and producing talent.

The reputation that Hebert has within youth-centred circles, alongside interest from other EFL outfits, suggests that Charlton could be landing a major coup here, with Addicks supporters bound to be excited to see what the young forward can achieve in the years to come.
