CONMEBOL brings in new game rules for Sudamericana, rejects Lei Vini Jr | OneFootball

CONMEBOL has announced it will implement new laws for the second half of the year across the Sudamericana and Libertadores, effective immediately for the Sudamericana play-off between Santos and UCV of Venezuela.

The Lei Vini Jr, which expels players who cover their mouths during disputes, has been used at the World Cup, is not mandatory and will not be applied.

IFAB has approved changes aimed at speeding up play. Teams have five seconds to take a throw-in, the fourth official may start a visible count and, if time is exceeded, the throw goes to the opposition.

Goal kicks also have five seconds, with the referee counting. If the kick is not taken in time, the opponents are awarded a corner.

For substitutions, departing players have ten seconds to leave, with the referee signalling. If they delay, the incoming player must wait one minute before entering, with an exemption for those unable to depart due to injury.

Players who receive medical treatment must then wait one minute before re-entering the match.

VAR is permitted to intervene in two further cases, to overturn a wrongly awarded corner and to correct a mistaken second yellow card that would otherwise result in a dismissal.
