Corinthians coach banned by STJD for São Paulo derby remarks

This Friday, the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) judged Corinthians' goalkeeping coach Marcelo Carpes for unsportsmanlike conduct during the Majestoso classic against São Paulo, played in July for the Brazilian Championship.

Initially subject to a suspension of up to six matches, the professional received the minimum punishment of one game, which has already been automatically served. In the match, Carpes was expelled for insulting the referees, as reported by Anderson Daronco, who officiated the classic, in his report.

“I expelled Mr. Marcelo Carpes, identified as Corinthians' goalkeeping coach, for getting up from the bench in a hostile manner, uttering the following words: 'You are weak, everything against us, give your ass to them too.' I also inform that he, after being expelled, left the bench normally.”

The Prosecutor's Office analyzed the report and the match footage, charging Carpes under article 258 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice, referring to unsportsmanlike acts. During the trial, the coach admitted the mistake and publicly apologized for the incident. He stated that the tension and dissatisfaction with the team's performance contributed to his reaction.

“I got carried away, I was nervous, we were losing the game. It was something that never happened to me, I have 34 years in football and it was my first expulsion. That's what happened, I got carried away and ended up complaining more than I should have. I just have to apologize.”

Having received the minimum penalty of one game, the coach is now eligible to return to the alvinegra technical staff, as he served his suspension automatically in the match following the Majestoso. He is expected to return to the alvinegro bench against Santos this Wednesday, the 15th, in a game for the 28th round of the Brasileirão.
